How to Register For and Schedule an ICC Special Inspection Exam
This system is a joke. No wonder less people are becoming inspectors.
Helped me pass my ACI. Thank you
Only once have I met someone utilize this test for data per an engineers request in the real world. For a hightop. Feel this an ACI flair that may or may not have had an effect on my pay for still not having an ACI. Keeps me on my toes though so thumbs up for the video
Why need ip until 2 not zero
I know one thing, if you watched this video and took your eyes off of it for 4% of it, the test is invalid and you need to start again. Oh boy, so many things to make it invalid. I'm excited to study this but intimidated at the same time.
If you watch this video the night before your test, the test is invalid
Great video. Thank you, but don´t you think it would be extremely beneficial for your viewers to actually see the pressure gauge instead of showing you are just tapping it with your fingers?
Excellent video, quality, summary, and presenter.
This is the worst test, first this method is for light weight concrete and LW is using rarely, 2nd the LW is mostly for internal slabs on metal deck and suppose to be Non air enterained, no need for test. So you may need this once in your career or may be yoy never need it. Anyway you did great job, thanks.
Right! And when your proctor tells you that some of his 2 hour old concrete, an hour in the wheel barrow, is struck in the bowl, and therefore your test is invalid, tell him to take a hike!
can you perform a building structural steel inspections by only having ICC welding SI without having the CWI cert?
Does time as a welder/pipefitter help count as experience?
Yes it absolutely does!
Best video I've seen so far on this method. All the details he gives, are from someone who has done this in the field for a while, not someone following the ASTM in a controlled environment. That's a real education that you don't get any other way.
I appreciate all the skipping past the first part, but I struggle with knocking every bit of air out of the vessel before taking the compression test. It seems to me that if it was in a controlled area that it would maintain that air?? or am I wrong
This is why the test emphasizes the flat surface of concrete in the first half of the test / the start of this video. A flat surface of concrete will be right up against the bottom of the pressure chamber. That is also why you put the water into the petcocks. Once water is standing in both petcocks there is no non entrenched air inside of the pot. The concrete is right up against the bottom of the top piece (top of the chamber) and any air that is trapped is pushed out by the water introduced. You then pressurize the top valve with air - then until you press the air valve on top and hit the side of the pot there is no connection between the air in the top and the pot, therefore there is no air introduced to the lower chamber until the time where the test is taken.
great video guys!!!! correct correct correct
I’m trying to take a test and being waiting for an available time slot. Have not get luck for about 1 hour. That is frustrating 😢.
All the advancements in technology and we can’t get an easier and more reliable method?!?!?! The idiot who thought of this doesn’t ever have to do it on a summer day of 90 degrees
I get lazy sometimes and use the rod to tap it 😢
Very helpful when i first started in the testing business a year on and I’m still loving it as a job !
Wtffff. This test blows
How can conect w you?
2023 - They are making us use the 'Guardian' browser. It is even worse :(
7 1/2" slump! Just perfect for driveway pouring Yahoo's
That could be the spec for pump mixes or for places where you don't want voids due to rebar.
Took the test passed and passed on first try. My experience with plan reading is very limited . Never looked at plans before in the field . Was a laborer . What I did was I took a prep class that taught the different symbols and what their meaning are . The class also had a test on a set of plans that made you look for items in those plans . That class was harder than the actual test. Looking thru an actual set of plans that had 20+ pages compared to the proctor test that had anywhere from 1-3 pages at a time per question to choose from is what really prepared me for the test.
ruclips.net/video/2TebMTZVXos/видео.html
I heard they're trying to petition ACI to do away with this for certification.
I really think this is a waste of time, like it’s time to move on from this Stone Age procedure. Now we have the air pot. That’s it. No one really does this. It’s like taking an old metal hard hat assuming you will need to use it but never will because it’s out of the market an unsafe now.
@@taddeydelazzierra4735 agreed. Should just be job specific. The only time you see much LWC is on a high-rise.
Great video thank´s
Having trouble getting a good finish on the top of the cylinder. I want the lab to be happy.
I know the test is open book. For my course, 1 hardback i purchased, 2 other books I downloaded and printed the ebooks, so they are now in hardcopy. Is that acceptable?
What is the ideal temperature range for freshly mixed concrete per ACI? And what ASTM can I study that relates to a maximum/minimum temperature for freshly mixed concrete?
The very bad method of work. Safety first: gloves! Why you dont have the gloves? Where is the plate of base? The cone is dust. This not a good method. Sorry

I been working with a co-worker on getting certified with ICC and yes, this Pronto is bad. Employer lost over $200, he failed because Pronto stripped him of all his material that you could us. No second chances. You have to pay full price again. It was frustrating trying to comply with all their demands.
We do that so different in Australia.
Because you’re all criminals
Are you allowed to read questions out loud if you take it IN PERSON? Because I think it helps me concentrate when I do that and if I'm in person they would know I'm not trying to whisper to someone, just curious before I go it and take it because I'm definitely not doing it at home after watching this. Edit: (Currently in my City they do let you choose to take it in person, even if Pearson-Vue has been phased out or whatever)
Don’t use a mallet on a mold that is intended to be used once or made of thin plastic per the book as it could cause cracks or imperfections that would otherwise make the test INVALID.
Thanks from canada
If you want to have the worst experience you can try taking ICC soil plan exam through ICC pronto system. The ICC doesn’t care about test takers, they care about 190$ that they charge each time. We need a physical center to take plan exams not with pronto. I couldn’t even track the site plans and read it through pronto with my 32 inch monitor.
I think SI certs soil Code training is so useful but the Plan training is not enough to pass the exam (or maybe having difficulties reading plans through pronto made me think like it)
Thanks for the info
I had the worst experience taking ICC plan exam through pronto system. It took me two days to convince them I’m using just one monitor ( pronto system detected two monitors) and after all I started taking the exam I couldn’t see the site plans well. The system is crap.I wish there was a physical site I could take the exam.
Only jobs these tests are "looked at" are federal jobs.
Anyone interested in an actual slump test is just giving themselves away as not knowing anything about concrete.
It is an outdated test. Slump in the field tells nothing about final strength
Thanks for sharing.
I’m about to take my 47p test . Just need a refresher. Any sites that can help with the plans . I guess my main concern is the time aspect of the test . I always been a bit slow a reading plans and finding the answer and when I do find it I actually feel dumb for not finding it faster
Hi Mr. Sleeps, we can help with that. Check out www.sicerts.com/icc-reinforced-concrete. You can create a free account on our site and message us through our system.
Perhaps not directly related to test portion, but make sure you remove any remote desktop applications from your PC or MAC before starting. The new Guardian browser security scan will detect them and automatically kick you out.
Thank you thank you!! Great post!
Again google is spying on me. No searches and this shows up unexpectedly and relevant to my new field
How did you get the mold volume
All meters come machined to a precise size from the manufacturer, 0.25 cuft
By measuring the weight of water of the container considering volumetric correction factor depending on water temperature.
Thanks for this. Passed my exam several years ago but haven't had to use this method to test air. Video helped as a refresher.
Its even worse today. You have to use the guardian web browser and it doesn't allow you to zoom the plans page. You cant just zoom in or out with guardian, you have to open the exhibit. Now you are forced to use the magnifier. The laptop mouse pad is disabled and it wont zoom in on the exhibit on the guardian browser. I am curious about one thing and that's using a touch screen to zoom and clearly see an exhibit. I made the mistake of taking the practice SI practice exam on chrome instead of the new Guardian browser that's required. Also pronto is the only way to take the exam.
Yes you are correct! On Jan. 23, ICC required the test to be taken using the Guardian browser, and yes, you cannot use the Ctrl +/- to zoom in and out any longer. We talked with ICC for 45 min about this. They are aware of the biggest challenge that is most complained about - the forced magnifier on-screen. They told us they are about to roll out an update that will allow the test taker to disable the magnifier and use an alternate means of zooming in and out. The Guardian browser is here to stay permanently, as it provides a higher level of security than the LogMeIn plug in previously used. We need to update and release a new video, and we’re working on updating our test taking tips!
Regarding the use of a touchscreen device, I asked ICC this. They told me they weren’t sure and needed to ask their vendor parter, the company that facilitates the system allowing the remote proctoring. But she said she didn’t think it would be allowed. I’m waiting to hear back on that.
@@gabrielkramer9164 so I was able to figure out in my settings on Windows 11 I can change the font size in the accessibility menu. At 100% you can open an exhibit go to your settings change it to 160% and some of the plans blow up and are clear.
My biggest issue and frustration with ICC as I have attempted and failed twice on codes for soils and you don't get to see the questions you got wrong. You only get to see a general area to focus, which is stupid in my opinion because it does help improve in any way. All ICC is out for is your money and when it comes to my own livelihood as an inspector, it is beyond frustrating. Especially when the exams are 190 dollars a piece and both code and plans separately.
